Does CD Key = Product Key

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I got a new machine that had Leopard on it, and now I've upgraded to Snow Leopard. I want to reinstall my version of Office v.X on this machine (I can't upgrade because I need VBA).

I've loaded from the CD, and it asks me for the CD key. I'm entering the Product Key from the back of the book, and the app tells me that it's invalid. But I don't see any kind of key on the CD. So I'm not sure what I should be looking for.
Does it matter that this is an upgrade CD? I also have the original product key, but it's a different format and doesn't fit into the boxes.

This link describes the difference between CD Key and Product ID:

In case the above link does not work:

Yes, you will need to point to the old install or CD. See the directions
here:

If you could find a cheap copy of Office 2004, I would try to upgrade to it.
There have been a lot of changes since Office X was released. Be careful is
you buy off eBay. Some users sell the same keys over and over as well as
give you a copy of the CD rather than the original.
