Does mail merge work in the headers for Word 2003?

I can get the mail merge to work within a document but not within a header or
footer. Will this work with 2003?

It seems OK here for Letter type merges - with Catalog (Directory) merges
you will typically end up with bits of text that look like <<fieldname>>
when you merge, but you may be able to fix that by adding a continuous
section break at the end of the mail merge main document.
