does "office" come with windows xp pro?

I am about to purchase a new comp., it comes with xp pro installed (from
Dell), and am wondering if I need to budget another couple hundred for a copy
of office. informed feedback?

Windows PCs never come with Office. You may receive a trial version (60 day
version) but if you really want Office, I would purchase it separately from
amazon.com or some other reputable retailer for a price break and also the
ability to install it on more than the original computer. OEM installed
Office, for which you may NOT receive a disk, is forever tied to only that
system. Retail versions are portable.

YES. But you will be better off buying Office from Amazon because you
get what is called a retail version and this version can be ported to
another systems in case your old PC is broken.

Also, because all DELL PCs come with Microsoft Works, you are entitled
to buy an upgrade version from Amazon and this too carries all the
benefits of a retail package.

Retail package can be installed on two systems while OEM versions (the
one you get from DELL, HP etc) can only be installed on that particular
PC it came with.
