Does Outlook 2003 HAVE to be the email client

M

Michael S.

I'm a stand-alone user (i.e., not connected to a corporate network.) I've
begun using another email client which I like better - faster loading,
better junk mail filters. But each time I start loading Outllok, I get an
error message saying I need to restart Outlook and select it as my default
email client. I really just want to use Outlook for tasks (with
FranklinCovey's PlanPlus) calendar and contacts (with Chapura's KeyContacts
for syncing with my Palm.

I seem unable to find a way to tell Outlook I don't want to use it as an
email client, and to quit "warning" me.

Any solutions?

Did you create an email account in outlook? Go to control panel, mail and
delete the profile. Create a new profile but do not add an email account.

Does the dialog have a 'don't ask again' option?

Does the sync software require outlook to be the default client? If so,
you'll need it as default and the only time it will be a problem is on
mailto links in a browser or using the send to menu. You may not be able to
change the mailto behavior, I don't know if editing it in Window Explorer's
tools, option, file types to use your client will stick... you may be able
to create a link for the Send to menu to your client.
