Does picture Compression work in Word 2002?

Hi folks

Office XP. Picture compression in Powerpoint results in a
reduced file size. When a picture is Compressed in Word
2002 the file size does not change.
Has anyone got any experience with this?

It works in Word 2003 - but I have not been successfule
with 2002.
Not sure if it's a bug or what
