Don't show junk mail in the preview pane.

If the preview pane is turned on, clicking on the junk mail folder displays
the first message in the folder. The preview pane shouldn't be enabled for
the junk mail folder.

So turn it off! The preview pane option is local to each folder; i.e.,
enabling the preview pane in one folder doesn't turn it on for all
folders. The default is the enable the preview pane the first time you
load Outlook for its standard folder set, and for every new e-mail type
folder you create thereafter. That does NOT preclude you from altering
that behavior to NOT display the preview pane for a folder. So just do
it!

I have the preview pane enabled for the Inbox (because I use anti-spam
software that usually ensures no spam gets left in there along with some
modification of HTML-formatted e-mails to make sure they are safe).
However, for further protection, you could disable the preview pane for
the Inbox folder and instead of AutoPreview which shows the first few
lines of a message but only in plain text. I also have the preview pane
enabled for the Draft, Outbox, and Sent Items folders. However, I have
the preview pane disabled for the Junk and Deleted Items folders.

It's YOUR choice which folders will have the preview pane enabled or
not.

The Reading Pane doesn't work for the Drafts folder though...

I figured the OP was asking about Outlook pre-2003 because he called it
the Preview Pane. It is called the Reading Pane in Outlook 2003. I
haven't bothered to "upgrade" to the 2003 version - no bang for the buck
(for me, that is) and some of the same bugs still proliferated to the
new version. While it is usually required to have the OP tell us the
version of Outlook when discussing the feature set, I figured "Preview
Pane" pretty much excluded Outlook 2003. Thanks for the heads up,
however, as another piece of trivia to know should I end up helping an
OL2003 user wanting to use the Reading Pane in their Drafts folder.

And I thought "Junk Mail Folder"-> gotta be Outlook 2003! :)

But I agree; it is so much eassier when they just put down their version...
