Door shape attaches to room wall

B

Bill Laurie

All my shapes automatically attach to another shape (wall) and I can not move
them individually. The door shape attaches to the wall based on the center of
the door and I can not get it to attach at the correct place.

I am generally new with Visio but I have used the online help and
application help without resolution.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Bill

Thanks, I am running with all snap and glue settings unchecked.

After highlighting the door shape and selecting Shape, Ungroup. I get the
follwing message. "Shape protection and/or layer properties prevent complete
execution of this command."

How do I correct for this and perform the ungroup?

That message is normal.
If you ungroup the door, it will not behave any more.
There is also the right click, set display options.

If you really want to ungroup the door.
Shapesheet, protection section, cell LockGroup.

I was surprised that the door glues to the wall with all glue settings off.
They must have been programmed that way.
Don't forget to set at least "glue to connection points" back to on, in
order to work the normal way.

First I want to thank you for taking time to respond to my questions. You are
a kind person. I do not use Visio that often so I probably will not pursue
this problem. But, I will continue to read these threads. They are very
informative. I did want to say that I did set the Shapesheet, protection
section, cell LockGroup and I did not see any difference.

I have one layout to do and was annoyed that this version, 2002 SR1, did not
work like the old version I was using. Thanks again ......

This forum is indeed a great way for learning Visio. Unfortunately there are
not many easy, straightforward problems to solve.
And so in a couple of months you will be able to read blogs as in visguy.com
without trouble for understanding.
