Is there an efficient or existing method for downloading the entire
discussion group, all questions and answers to peruse while not on the web?

How many terabytes do you have available? The microsoft.public newsgroups -
several hundred of them - have been around for decades; check

You could use Outlook Express or a better newsreader such as Agent
(http://www.forteinc.com) and download whatever range of posts you want. I'm
not sure how many months back the posts are kept. I don't think there's any
easy way to do so from Microsoft's webpage but I find newsreaders much more
efficient in any case. The news server you should use is msnews.microsoft.com.

Now John, I was one of the first posters on 1996-04-17 so it'll be
about eleven years in about 12 days.

Agreed.

One of the things the responders do is understand your question in
your terminology and answer in the products terminology.
