Caladyjane,
You actually don't download anything from Microsoft except updates or
service packs. You install software on your pc from your installation cd(s).
As a suggestion;
To answer or suggest anything for your question, anyone here would need some
pretinent information, such as:
You Windows version.
Specific error messages recieved during the installation of your Office
version.
Information on your pc before this problem that you may think is important
before your problem with installation.

Hi Chris,
You are right. I was trying to install the microsoft 2000 professional
office software upgrade into my new laptop but I got a message that the
software did not find a compatible program so it would not let me install. I
have microsoft home office 2003 on my laptop.

Not true. There are many programs one can download from Microsoft. Office
just doesn't happen to be one of them.

Alias,
Not true, you can download an Office version here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/standardtrial.mspx
Didn't think it was relevant to the op.
You are correct, you can download Media Player 10, a new version of
messenger, or if you want, a trial version of Share Point Portal Server:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/sharepoint/prodinfo/trial.mspx
plus many more. Just didn't think that was relevant to the op...

That is not Office. It's a watered down *trial* version that expires in 60
days.
