Downloading a template

M

Mike Rogers

When I go to Microsoft site and find a template that I need, while it is
downloading toward the end of the download it stops and I get a little window
that says that my office 2000 is no longer supported by microsoft and the
download terminates. Does this mean that all templates are now off limits to
me unless I upgrade to a newer office suite? Just to clarify I am trying to
download a template that is designed for office 2000 or earlier, and I should
be able to download one good for up to 2003 but might loose some bells and
whistles.

Thanks for the reply, and yes I have tried up to download xl2003 templates.
They give me the same thing. I wonder why they even have all those templates
on line if no one can use them, seems like they would clean up the space and
have it available for something useful. Oh well I end up making most of the
ones I need any way so nothing has really changed for me.

Thanks again

Microsoft is no longer accepting or creating new templates for older
versions of Office. It's been ages since I've used 2000 so I'm not sure if
templates that state 2003 can be downloaded. The ones for 2007 can't even be
downloaded but have you tried any meant for 2003?

They are still useful, provided you have newer software. Please realize that
your version of Office has been updated with Office XP (2002), 2003, and
2007. The release of Office 2010 is just down the road (maybe 7 or 8 months
away). At some point they have to draw a line and unfortunately you seem to
be on the wrong side of that line.

I know this doesn't fix your issue but you could get a friend with Office
2003 to download them for you and send them to you. That would help you get
a little more life out of the available resources.

Thanks for the follow up advise. It just amazes me that the information is
there but unatainable. I guess there are reasons they change setting or what
ever they do to stop one from being able to reach these templates. I am just
an old guy that does not like change....and I know it. I guess there will
come a point in time when I will be required to up grade <bg>

I can't download some of the slicker templates at work for the same reason.
If I want them badly enough, I download them at home and email them to
myself. ;-)
