Downloading emails every time I start Outlook 2002

Thanks in advance for any replys.
Every time I start Ooutlook it will download emails that
have already been downloaded in a previous session.
I deleted them from the inbox, then shutdown Outlook,
normally and when I started back up those same emails came
back, as if it never knew that it had downloaded them.
