Downloading ppt files from a site

How can I get PowerPoint files being downloaded from a site to open in PowerPoint rather than in an IE browser?

You can't unless you zip the file, then the user download it and then un-zip it, then double clicks
on the .ppt file.

Only or PCs under your control (say an intranet) you can have the users change their settings to allow it to open in PPT instead of
IE by using the method at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=162059
