DPI Resolution in Picture Manager (Office 2003)

How do you adjust the resolution in MS Picture Manager?

My wife has been using Picture Manager for about a year and we have just
discovered that every picture loads at 72 DPI (even if saved from the
camera at 300 DPI). If she edits the photo at all and saves the edited
picture, it is now only 72 DPI... fine for email but lousy for printing
(she is writing a book).

I understand that what has been done cannot be undone, but for future
work, can this be changed, or must she use a different photo program
(she likes the thumbnail viewing in Picture Manager).

I've searched the MS Information Base, and Googled this question (found
it asked once but unanswered).

DPI is based on the "viewing medium" and has nothing to do with the
image quality. On the other hand, DO NOT COMPRESS any image unless you
have a backup copy saved in a safe location, or you don't care about
trashing your only copy!
