Drafting in word or excel?

Is it possible to pull up a graphing paper in word or excel and then
use some functions like drawing an axis positioning some objects like
circle? I am talking about using some basic functions of CAD in MS
word or excel. Thanks.

Well i dont have a CAD program and it want to do some basic
dimensioning and drawing. Is it possible using the latest version of
office?

(I spent 22 years drafting so you have to know that this is like running
fingernails over a chalkboard.)

Are they your ONLY options?

**IF** you have to use an Office program, I'd suggest Visio.

No idea if this program is any good or not but a search on shareware CAD
brought this up. It appears that there is a free version.

I don't know whether this would help or not, but I have written a few
pieces on flowcharting in Excel and creating custom AutoShapes. The
concepts are similar enough that they might help you.

Excel isn't a great CAD substitute, but if it's all you've got it will
work in a pinch. In fact there's one company that sells an electrical
schematic add-in for Excel (http://www.fudjesoftware.com.au). I
thought that was pretty cool.

Anyway, I hope the articles at least give you some ideas of what you
can do in Excel.

Hi Swamy:
I see you have missed the best Office Module of them all, i.e., PUBLISHER. I
have done all my drawings in Publisher. I use the Master to manualy construct
a 1/4" grid and I can make drawings up to C Size (13" x 19" max). I draw out
my own Symbols like windows, doors, stairs, etc. and I use the Fill function
for all my textures. The folks at the County Buidling Dept. were very
impressed with my construciton drawings and they wanted to know what CAD
program I used to do it. I told them MS PUBLISHER.
