DragDrop using using Visio ActiveX Control

Steve Cox originally posted this back on 08DEC03:
Does anyone from Microsoft have anything to add? Does anyone have any
samples of this working?

As I've stated before, it seems to be an issue with Drag and Drop from a
control in the same application as the Visio ActiveX control.

And now I'm having the same problem using an MSFlexGrid control with Visio 2003, and can't find a working answer anywhere on the internet.

Does anyone out there have a solution for this? I'm getting rather tired of smacking my head against the wall...

Jerry - as you are not getting the support you need for Visio,
would you consider an alternative to Visio control?

If yes check out MetaDraw at www.Bennet-Tec.Com.
We can definitely accept drag drop from a TreeView
or MS FlexGrid and more importantly we'll be there to
help provide real support if you get stuck like this.

With MetaDraw you can allow your users to drag in images,
and then allow them to drag the images around, create diagram
links, zoom, scroll, print, and more.

Better yet - no Visio end-user license requirements

=> Drop me a note by e-mail if this seems interesting to
you. I'd be happy to answer questions on MetaDraw
and to get you started with evaluation.

* please include copy of this e-mail and details of your
needs with your response

I did figure out what the problem was (over-engineered code from the previous release :) but we're kicking around our next-gen products right now and I'm looking for alternatives to Visio. Your MetaDraw component certainly looks promising. Email is on the way when I get into work on Monday.

Thanks!

Drag/drop is easily done in Visio, even from a grid control. Graham Wideman has an entire chapter devoted to drag-drop and shows how you can do this in VB6, Delphi, C#, and VB.Net
