Help! I know there is a way to turn off the drawing canvas in word (2003) but
for some reason I cannot find it in my options to disable it. Dose anyone how
to turn off the draw canvas. It is such a nuisance when I want to add a shape
or line onto my document.

Tools > Options > General > "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting
AutoShapes".

An alternative to disabling the Canvas altogether: When you select the tool
& the Canvas appears press ESC to discard the Canvas, then draw the shape.
