Draw objects over imported image

I brought in to a spreadsheet some details from an AutoCad drawing. Worked fine.
Then I set the transparency to 0 so the worksheet items can be seen. I can place
new shapes and text boxes superimposed over the image but if I need to alter
them later they will not select -- instead the larger picture is selected. Is
there a way to retain the image but set it behind the shapes? Or perhaps freeze
it so that it cannot be selected?

Try this

Select your AutoCad image

On the drawing toolbar (if you don't have it visible do View - Toolbar
- Drawing) click on the small drop arrow on Draw (at left end of bar
and choose Order - Send to Bac
