Drawing Canvas .. then what?

Deb

Using Word 2003, I am trying to create a process diagram on top of a table
displaying swim lanes. What is the purpose of that darn drawing canvas? It
causes me nothing but headache. I created my first process box and the
drawing canvas appeared. I sized it to fit over top the swim lane table and
formatted it to be in front of the text. However, I now cannot re-select the
process box I drew. How do you get control over the objects you put on a
drawing canvas?

TIA for any help.

The drawing canvas is supposed to help you keep multiple drawing
objects together in one place. Personally, I don't care for the
feature. You're not required to use it, and you can turn it off
by clicking on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the
"Automatically create drawing canvas" box | OK.

You might have a problem selecting a drawing object (text box,
autoshape, etc.) if it is formatted as "behind text". If the
Drawing toolbar is not currently displayed, then display it by
clicking on View | Toolbars | Drawing. On the Drawing toolbar,
click on the Select Objects tool (it's the big white arrow near
the left end of the Drawing toolbar), and then click on the
drawing object to select it. When you're done working with the
drawing object, click on the Select Objects tool again to turn it
off, or else you won't be able to select text with the mouse.

Thank you! One other question, no matter what I do I can't seem to get the
"Connectors" object to become active so I can connect all my process boxes.

Any clue why that would be?

Connectors only work in the Drawing Canvas.

Wow, I really dislike that thing. ;-) Looks like a Visio import is in order.

Thank you!
