my drawing on the drawing canvas isn't displaying properly

I drew a diagram on the drawing canvas and saved it. When I reopened the document, the drawing was no where to be seen, and when I clicked on the place where the drawing used to be, a black rectangle (about the size of the drawing canvas I had) became selected. I can't get it to display the picture inside the canvas though. Help! please! This drawing is important!

Thanks

Sometimes its just best to turn off the Drawing Canvas, try it and see if it
works. Go to Tools > Options > General (tab), under the "Gernal options"
heading uncheck "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting
AutoShapes.
