Drawing Lines in Word XP

R

Ron H.

Hi All,
I had a feature in Word 2000 that I don't seem to be able to find in Word XP
namely the ability to draw lines between objects whereby I can draw a series
of straight lines (but still 1 continuous line) by pressing and releasing
the left mouse buttons to change directions of the 1 line. This is a clumsy
description, but Freeform and Scribble don't do this. Using Connectors with
Elbows (missing in Word 2000) does not achieve this as it lacks the
flexibility.
So how do I do this in Word XP

Thankyou Bob,
I did not realise that the double click feature on Lines was available. That
partially solves my problem - but that capability to draw a single grouped
continuous line changing directions with only a single mouse click eludes
me. I know I could do it in W2000 - but can't see it W2002. Thankyou very
much for the info you supplied.

Hi Ron,

Hmmm, the line drawing features in Word 2000 and Word 2002
are the same, except for Draw 98 becoming the drawing
canvas. A line enclosed in the Canvas will be part of
the single canvas area and would behave like it was grouped
(i.e. the canvas is the item rather than the lines)
The double click (repeated use) method does give you the
ability to have a single click to change directions on
straight lines. If you use the selection tool (white arrow)
on the drawing toolbar to 'lasso' all of the lines and then
use Draw=>Group it will make it one continuous line item
whether or not it is on the canvas or in the text area.

The only other choice that comes to mind is to add the
DrawReshape command icon to the drawing toolbar from
Tools=>Customize=>Options/All Commands area, draw a line
and divide it into segments by dragging from midpoints in
the line, but it's entirely possible that I'm forgetting
another choice :)
