Drawing Toolbar Excel

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Line, font and fill color icons are greyed out in Excel. If I click on Customize Toolbars, the icons display correctly. When I click "OK" in customize dialog, icons immediately go grey again. Suggestions?
Thanks.

Those buttons don't become active unless you select a *drawing object* to
which the attribute can be applied -- IOW, they are not the tools to use for
formatting cells. Use the controls on the Formatting Palette or the
Formatting Toolbar instead, use Format> Cells, or create Styles.
