Drop Character

Is it possible to set up text formatting to automatically put a drop
character on a paragraph? I have tried Modifying the Style for a paragraph
and have not been able to find a way.

I would like to be able to set this up so that the users of the publication
do not have to go to Format, Drop Cap everytime they need to use it.

Many thanks

Paul

It is possible. Create a style with a name like "dropcap". Format a
paragraph with a drop cap. While the cursor is in that paragraph bring up the
Styles and Formatting window, right click on the style and click Update to
match selection.

eezzell, It is different in 2007, after one creates the new style, click all
styles, right-click normal, Update...

A p.s.
I never knew you could format a drop cap paragraph, I learn something new
everyday.

That said, when you use a drop cap style every paragraph in the text box will
have a drop cap. I don't think one gains much by creating this style unless the
text box is one paragraph long.

There are lots of advantages to specifying styles. By creating a drop cap
style you can change the appearance of the drop cap and have it update every
instance of its use. To avoid the issue of every paragraph having the drop
cap, make sure that the "Style for the following paragraph:" is not a drop
cap. --

Computing should be about insight, not numbers or flash.
