Drop down lists for quick searches

Can someone take a look at www.traceng.co.uk

I have created a drop down list at the far right to act as a quick
search to the website. I have managed to get the options from the list
to point to different pages, but is there a way to get them to point
to a bookmark on a different page ?

Also Frontpage is causing problems with the button roll over effect on
the 'Home' button at the top left. Do any of you guys get the same
effect ? If so, can you see the problem. Is Frontpage OK for creating
roll over effects.

Many thanks

Alec

P.S. I know the site isnt finished yet, but comments are always
welcome.

Alec,

I can't get your quick search to work, I don't think it's coded correctly.
Take a look at this code generator:
http://javascript.internet.com/generators/drop-down-menu.html

For the URL values, just enter your page in the format:
http://www.example.com/page.htm#bookmark

I'd suggest the use of a "Go" button, either a form button or an image. I
think that's more user friendly that automatically jumping.

Regarding the rollover, take a look at line 47. All the JavaScript code
references "fpAnimswapImgFP14" but the id for that image is set to
"fpAnimswapImgFP20." The JS code can't find "...14" because it doesn't
exist in the document.

I found the problem with the roll over effect as you said. Thanks.

Also I have tried the link to a bookmark as suggested. If you get
time, could you take another look at the site www.traceng.co.uk.

On the index page, the pull down search list at the top right has an
option for service and dataimport. These both have the link to the
CADCAM page and two bookmarks

cadcam.htm#service
cadcam.htm#dataimport

Is there a reason why this does not work ?

Thanks again

Alec

Groovy!

I checked for this page based on the drop down code:
http://www.traceng.co.uk/cadcam.htm

and received a 404, file not found.

However, the link on your toolbar points to:
http://www.traceng.co.uk/CADCAM.htm

Note the capitalized CADCAM in the second URL. I'm guessing you're on a
Unix server, which is case sensitive when it comes to file names. This
is unlike Windows where either filename is treated the same.

I manually created the URL:
http://www.traceng.co.uk/CADCAM.htm#service

and it jumped right to the correct spot on the CADCAM page. Either
change the file name to lower case to match your drop down or modify
your dropdown code to match the file name.

I'd recommend the first suggestion and further recommend that you
_always_ use lower case filenames to avoid this kind of problem in the
future.
