Drop down menus not active - only "new comment"

I need help in making an imported Excel object transparent to the "washed
out" background I have in a PPT 2003 presentation. Inadvertently, one of the
Excel charts I imported/pasted looks wonderful, with bars and numbers
standing cleanly over the slide background. Trouble is, I can't duplicate
this effect and have another 5 charts that have a large rectangle of white
showing underneath the bars and lines. Any tips will be greatly
appreciated.....Clive
