Drop tool bars & menus without opening a new window

I know how to resize the a browser window using the following code
window.resizeTo(500,500) but is there away to also make the menus & tool
bars go away without opening a new window?

The problem I'm having is that we want to maximize the screen real-estate
for users that have 800x600 or less by have the windows not display the
address field, tool bars, menus, etc. I'm doing this by opening a new window
but now we have to contend with the pop-up blocker issues.

That would be extremely annoying. When the user leaves the site for
any reason, how are you going to restore the toolbars, etc. The only
way is to close the browser window, and re-open it. And how do you
deal with the many users who have their browsers opened in a small
(800x600) window, even if they have a high resolution screen?
There are only two ways I know to remove the toolbars:
1) Pop-up window (personally, if any website opens a full screen
pop-up window [regardless of my screen resolution at the time], I
place it in Restricted Sites zone and leave.)
2) Open the IE browser in Kiosk mode - this is a user option, AFAIK,
cannot be done from the webpage.

And for other browsers/platforms?

You seem king of angry that I asked how to accomplish this. This is for an
business Extranet. It has a very specific application. I'd be glad to open
another window, which I'm currently doing, but now I have to deal with
educating the users about pop-up blockers and how to permit my window. To
use the site on a 800x600 system I have to elimate the menus and tool bars.
I don't get rid of the title bar so the user can still close the window.

I used to work in an intranet environment. Many page designers used
full screen pop-ups to "accommodate those with 800x600 screen
resolution". It was annoying even then for those of us (50% of
users) who used 1280x1024 screens to see a web page designed for
800x600, but opened at full screen - and the window was not resizable.
The 800x600 users (around 20% of the 1200 staff in my building) all
knew how to maximise the screen area by adjusting IE's toolbar layout,
and opening IE in Kiosk mode (with a home page containing the most
used links) was part of the training manual for my department.

I check the screen size first and if it is greater than 800x600 I don't do
the pop-up. Only for 800x600 people do I want the pop-up or to resize, but
I'd rather not have to deal with support of the pop-up blocker issues.

If the pop-up is invoked by means of a clickable link rather than
onload event, then most pop-up blockers will allow the pop-up with no
hassle or intervention, the rest usually allow the pop-up if some
other key (often Ctrl key) is pressed at the same time as the mouse is
clicked. This method will save having to check screen resolution, and
caters for the small window users.
