Dropdown Menus Scroll Down Very Slowly

When I click on the Open on the toold bar In MS Word and Excel the dropdowns
scroll down very slowly. I have just noticed this and believe that at one
time the appeared in a flash. I am running XP home and Office 97. Any
suggestions will be appreciated. Thank You.

Go to View/Toolbars/Customize and on the Options tab set Menu
Animations to "(None)".
