Dropped postal code digits, mail merge

when merging Excel address database with Word, the first two digits of the
zip code get dropped. how do i correct this? thank you!

Are they leading zeros, e.g., East Coast zips? If so, then convert them to
text instead of numeric with a leading apostrophe (') in the cell entry
before the zero.

If not, post an example for us to follow.
