dropping number

When I type 020627 excel puts in 20627 it always drops
the zero. I have tried differnet formats... what am I
doing wrong? thanks

Hi

Either format the cell as text before you enter the data, or type an
apostrophe ' first - which will tell Excel it is text.

and in the 'type' box enter 000000

If you still want the number functionality for operations
and so forth do...

Format > Cells > Custom > 000000

That is if you will always type a 6 digit number...
