duplicate contacts

I'm missing about half my contacts in BCM. I have a backup of an older
Outlook file that is saved to CSV. I can import it into outlook but then
when I drag and drop contacts into BCM I get all duplicates on the names I
still have in BCM. Is there a better way to do this so I don't have to
delete all the duplicates?

I have 1400 contacts so deleting duplicates would take a long time.

I troubleshoot duplicate contacts using the Excel 2007 remove duplicates
feature.

It's a little tricky, but in a nutshell, I would do an export of BCM and
an export of Outlook contacts.

I would then overlay the data in both files so the fields for name and
e-mail addresses line up.

BCM data would be on the top and Outlook data would follow.

I'd usually also colorize the cells to visually see which contacts
something belongs to.

After that, I'd run the remove duplicates feature on the column. It will
keep the first match it finds and delete every other match.

Then I'd import that file, after some additional cleanup back into BCM.

That sounds like a great plan but the other problem I'm having is whenever I
import or export BCM it shuts down outlook. I don't have any problems with
import/export of normal outlook databases just the BCM database. Any
thoughts to another option?

I would fix the export problem. Are your BCM backups completing
successfully?

There are lots of tools to deal with duplicates available, by the way.
I've tested some of them, but I really prefer my Excel approach even
though it's not for everyone.

Which BCM are we working with anyway? I am assuming 2007, but correct me
if that's wrong.

Anyway, I am done with this thread, let's work on your other issue in
your other thread.
