Duplicate tasks in timesheets Project Server 2003 SP2

Suzanne

I am currently encountering an issue with duplicate entries showing
within the tasks area of Project Web Access, using Project Server 2003
SP2.

The project itself is a dynamic project with only one task added or
changed per week and 30 people booking to it on weekly basis.

Any new tasks have been added by either right clicking to add a task
or from new. They have not been copied and pasted which I am aware
could cause the issue and master plans are disabled via the admin
option.

Does anyone happen to know of the best process to remove the
duplicates from the timesheet views and prevent it from happening in
future?

Suzanne - we are having this problem too. In our scenario, we've got two
tasks with the same name, but different start and finish dates. We think
it's related to how tasks are deleted?? Have you had any luck finding
source of problem and how to avoid and correct???

In our scenario, we've got two tasks with the same name on a timesheet. The
PM created a task, timereporters book time to the task. The PM deleted the
task... and then decided he should not have deleted the task and re-creates
the task of the same name. I'm sure it has 2 different task ID's in the DB
with the same name. I agree...I too think that it's related to how tasks are
deleted? Still not sure how to resolve this on peoples timesheet.

Dennis:

You need to train your PMs how to close assignments and then delete tasks.
To fix the problem you can either track the orphans down in the database, or
you can simply save the project to a file, delete it from the server, import
it back into the server and publish it.
