Duration Adjustments

As I add/change resources on a plan (fixed duration) or
manually change the duration or dependency, I consistently
get the message:

The resource is assigned outside the original dates for
task nn <snip> The duration of this fixed-duration task
will change to accommodate the resource assignment.

Can someone explain why this is happening and how I can
avoid it?

Thanks so very much for any direction. I am stumped.
Best Regards,
Scott

Is your project in a pool? Are you on 2002 Prof or Standard? Server?
It sounds like there is a restriction on the task that the resource
is assigned to. If it's a shared resource, it could be any of the
projects...

Hope this helps!

I am using MSP 2002 Prof. I am not on server. I have no
links to a resource pool. This is what has me stumped.

Best Regards,
Scott

You need to change the task type from "Fixed Duration" to "Fixed Work ( not
effort driven )" or " Fixed Units". Make the duration changes, then change
the task type back to "Fixed Duration". If there are many tasks involved,
select the title portion above the tasks, they should all show as being
selected. Then select the "Task Info" button on the toolbar. Go to the
advanced tab and change the task type. Remember to deselect the "Effort
Driven" checkbox. Do the same to change them all back again. This works well
for entering actuals also, so the schedule changes the way you think it
should.
