Duration for Summary Task and Multiple Independent Tasks

I'm using Project 2007. I have a summary task with several subtasks, all of
which have a 3 week combined duration to complete. The subtasks are not
predecessors of one another, they are all independent tasks using the same
resource. I want to show them independently, but not have the resource show
a daily overallocation. How can this be done?

Hello sslate,

You'll need to assign the resource to each of the 3 tasks in
assignment units which when added together do not exceed the
resource's max. units. If you want to distribute the time equally,
assign at 33.33% to each of the 3. Do not assign the resource to
the summary task.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,

What if I have so many that they equate to <1% each?

Hello sslate,

If you have so many tasks going on that you need to assign resources
at less than 1%, my first impression is that either you have an
enormous number of tasks going on or resources at such a low
availability that I wonder if they really are resources on your
project.

Something is amiss I think. What kinds of tasks and how many do you
have documented that you need to assign at less than 1%? Asking a
resource to multi-task to that degree is unrealistic, in my opinion.
The resource will spend his/her time shifting constantly from one
task to another with no real ability to accomplish anything. (Just
my opinion).

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
