Duration, Start, and Finish

I'm trying to set up task with an estimated or entered
duration and not have this action affect Start date or
Finish date. For example: It's possible that I'm working
on three task. All three task may start on the same day
and end on the same day. From start to finish each task
spanned three days. However, I only worked on each task a
few hours each day.

How do I enter a duration of say 6 hours for each task
and have the start and finish dates reflect the three
days for each task?

Do I have to insert a custom field to maintain my own end
date?

Hello Kenneth,
First of all, you switch the "Task Type" to "Fixed Duration" in the "Task
information" dialog box (Double Clic on the row of the task)
After that, you can type in a specific amount of Work (not duration) for
that task. In the Resource Usage view you can also type in the Actual work
on a day by day basis.
