DWT

Linda

Can someone please explain the differences, besides
editable regions, in using a dynamic webpage template or
creating all my new pages from an "existing page" (i have
made one page my "template" page) I wanted to know if it
would be beneficial to me to save my template page as
a .dwt then attach it to all other pages.

thank you very much,
Linda

Hi Linda,

One huge difference between the methods would be for changes. If you create
your pages from an existing page..and then later you want to change the
look..you will need to individually change all of those pages. If you use a
DWT..you will only need to change the DWT..and then update all pages that
use it.

Keep in mind that updating ALL pages associated with a
DWT will NOT work unless you are using a disk-based web
or have windows sharepoint services.

You can get around this issue by opening all pages
connected to the DWT and then update the DWT. This will
force all related pages to be updated.

Only other solution is to publish the web out to a DBW
(disk-based) web, open that and update ALL. You will then
have to import those pages back into your website.

This can be problematic for obvious reason.

Whoa, Michael! Dynamic Web Templates have nothing to do with SharePoint, OR
disk-based webs. Her problem is editable regions, and I am responding to
that separately.

The point Michael is trying to make is a warning (and work around) of the DWT automatic update
which is currently not supported in FP SE webs
- only supported in Disc Based Webs or WSS webs),
(since the FP SE do not recognize the new DWT object model)
