Dynamic Templates and Table of Contents

I am trying to generate a table of contents for my site.
I am using dynamic templates and in using them they
delete the Title and replace it with a meta name
description tag so when the table generates it generates
with the file names instead of the title.

Outside of purchasing a sitemap program or creating a
manual table of contents is there a work around for this?

The <head> section of a DWT usually contains code like the
following

<!-- #BeginEditable "doctitle" -->
<title>This is the top half of the DWT</title>
<!-- #EndEditable -->

This makes the Title tag editable in each page that uses
the template.

My problem is somewhat the same. When I try to generate
the TOC it creates a listof the regular file, followed by
(filename)_files/filelist.xml. I've recreated a
gazillion times, but can't get rid of the xml files. Any
ideas?
