E-mail failures

Help! I'm running Outlook 2000 with all latest critical Updates

I have 6 E-mail services setup within Outlook. Two are "sleepers" with
only the occasional message, one of the others is my ISP's e-mail
account, and the other three are on a separate domain.

The problem is that on the four "active" mailboxes the system won't
seem to complete the download of messages, failing with the
"connection lost"... contact your ISP" message.

This happens whether I do the boxes individually of on one
Send/Receive. It usually succeeds in the first few messages, sometimes
5, sometimes as many as 20, but thats it.

After it has happened once, I use mail2web to delete the messages that
have downloaded and try again. At this point it fails on message one,
that is the one after the last successful one, so again I use mail2web
to delete it, and then off we go with anothr 5 or so soming in and
then stops again.

There doesnt appear to be any pattern in which message it stops on.
I've checked size (most are as small as 3k), subject content or from
address, but no pattern I can see.

The rest of the Internet access through the ISP is working ok (IE and
Forte Agent), so I assume the connection's ok.

I've tried using my alternate modem but same result. This has only
been happening for the last two weeks or so, and *may* have started
after I reorganised the mailbox services in Outlook.

Before I undertake the normally thankless task of phoning my ISP's
support line ("sorry sir - we don't support Outlook..."), I wondered
if anyone might know whether this could be an Outlook problem?

This is driving me barmy (thank goodness for mail2web!)

TIA,

JohnK
