E-mail links not working

H

Howard Davis

I installed FrontPage today and am using it to create my website. Up to this
point I've found it far better than Word or any other webpage software I
have tried - however:

I have not as yet uploaded the site, which consists of a homepage and
several linked text pages. All the links between these pages and to outside
sites (URLs) seem to work, but when I try the links to my own e-mail address
I cannot get any response. An e-mail window (outlook express) should open
addressed to me, but this does not occur. I want to fix this before
uploading to my ISP.

Advice would be appreciated.

How are you creating the email link?

Thanks for the reply.

The same way I created the other links. I highlight the address, go to
INSERT - hyperlink, make sure the information in the window is correct, and
click OK. This worked for the other links but not for the e-mail address.

Make sure that you select the envelope in the hyperlink dialog before pasting in the email address.
Also make sure that you are only pasting the email in the following format:

[email protected]

I do just as you said here. The Edit Hyperlink Document page gives the
address preceeded by "mailto," as mailto:[email protected] I highlight
this and click OK, but it does not work.

You may have to wait until you publish the site to a web server in order to test, since if is
formatted correctly, it should work without any problems.

Thanks. I'll try that, and post here again if any problem remains.

Is it normal that although the URL and page-to-page links can be tested
prior to publication, the e-mail links cannot?

Actually it should work if you are using File Menu | Preview in Browser to view the page in IE and
have Outlook Express set as your default email application.

my email links work in preview mode. (OE6)

Thanks for the reply.

OE6 is what I have. Is there anything further I can do before uploading?
What should I do if I upload and the links still do not function?

Yes, it does work that way. Thanks!
