Is it allowed to have an apostrphe in your name ? Eg..
Joe.O'(e-mail address removed)

Does this fall within the accepted naming conventions ?

I do not believe this is allowed in any of the SMTP RFCs. Letters, numbers
only. Although "!", "#", "$", "+", and "_" (probably a few others, too) are
allowed, if your mail server also uses an x.400 transport/gateway, those
characters will mess things up.

My advice is to just keep it simple and avoid special characters.

If you quote it, like this: "Joe.O'Hare"@domain.com

Brian.Tillman is the name, smiths-aerospace.com is the domain.

I don't speak for Smiths, and Smiths doesn't speak for me.
