E-mail notifications not working (Project Pro/Server 2003)

I've gone into the Admin section of the web access and
tried the Name of our exchange 2000 server, it's IP
address, the url, what I thought was the SMTP name, etc.
I've gone into the exchange box and added the Project 2003
server name to the accept relays from list, but still no e-
mails come. Have I just not put the right thing in the
SMTP field yet, or am I missing something fundemental
here? Let me know if there is other information about my
setup that would be helpful to resolve this, and I'll
provide it.

Hello, Michael!

We had the same problem. But as it turned out this problem wasn't bind with
incorrect configuration of SMTP server.
To resolve this problem we select on Home page options "Alert me about my
tasks and status reports" -> "Send e-mail immediately when..." -> "I receive
a new to-do list task assignment " and "My to-do list tasks are modified".
This must be done by every user who must receive e-mails from Project
server.

OK, I found the problem. It has something to do with relaying. I'm not sure why, but when I changed the from address to something that was not a real address or domain in our NW, the exchange server passed it right through. Now I can understand when something attempts to go through my exchange server with my domain on it, but it originates from an ip address outside of my NW that it would be denied under the relay rules, but why when a mail with a valid address and in house domain, coming from an in house server with an in house IP address, which I added to the accept relay's from list, was still being denied???? Gotta love Microsoft.
