E-mail Opens Slow

N

Here is the problem, when I try to open e-mails it take
between 20-30 seconds to open even just the basic text e-
mail. My e-mail is running trough an Exchange server and
the other users are not having this problem. I have added
RAM to the computer thinking that might help, but had no
effect on the load times. I have found nothing in the
Microsoft KB to solve the problem. Any help or ideas
would be appreciated

I might be way off the mark here but I have experienced the same issue before. My problem was Instant Messaging. I found that if I were signed in I had the problem, if not it was fine. This was with Exchange IM. Maybe try this if you using IM

I have the same issues, and we are not running any IM. My users complain
almost daily that it takes 20-30 seconds to switch between email messages.
Running Exchange 2000 SP3, Outlook 2000.

You are not "running" any IM, but in Outlook there is a setting to "Enablee
Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook" and you will want to uncheck this
(It is checked by default). Go to Tools>Options>Other tab>and near the
bottom of the window will be "Instant Messaging" with the check box
option...uncheck and click OK.

Good Luck

I had the same unbearably slow email and lots of timeout errors - as I read these many messages on slow mail (about the first dozen posts), it occurred to me that maybe my email account was messed up - after trying a few things to no avail, I remembered that PC-cillin had forced some changes so it could intercept the mail. So, I changed back to the original config and it seems to fetch the mail quickly and without errors after several tries.

I have Outlook 2000 and just started having this problem as well. It drives me nuts. I am a beginner and not sure how to reset my Outlook? Any help would be great. Or even this IM disconnect is a little new to me. I don't think I have it on my Outlook. Thanks for the help

One option we discovered and recently removed was causing slowness, but only
when opening attachments:
In Symantec AntiVirus Corp Edition client, there is a setting to Enable MS
Exchange realtime protection. With that option turned on, opening any
attachments was unbearably slow. Since we already scan at 2 layers before
the message reaches the client, we have since turned this option off and
performance has improved considerably.
