E-mailing file

What is the best way to e-mail a large Word file? (It's a story, seems to
be about 8 mb.) I tried making it into a PDF (and then the properties said
it's only 3.? mb, would that be right?) As a .doc it was taking too long
to send, so I cancelled it. Will appreciate any advice, I'm not very
knowledgeable about such things.

It depends a lot on what the person expecting this file wants sent to
them. I suggest you find out BEFORE you choke their inbox.

I was guessing that might be the answer; problem is while I have unzipped
files that people have sent me, I don't know how to zip a file myself to
send to someone else. Would appreciate help with that.
