Earned Value in MSP

Guest

Hi,

As I see it Earned VAlue in MSProject is calculated based upon costs in a
monetary value (i.e. £, $, etc). However, a lot of projects calculate Earned
VAlue based upon manhours - can MSProject calculate earned value based upon
manhours rather than cost, or do I need to do a lot of setting up of
calculated fields?

Thanks,

Simply put a resource cost of 1 monetary unit per hour for your resources.
Then ignore the monetary unit when you are looking at the results.

I produce a number of Earned Value reports using hours but have done so by
performing my own calculations using macros, Numberx and Costx custom fields
in Project. As far as I know, Project only calculates E.V. in monetary
units.

Any reports that are shown to team members are calculated in person-hours.
Showing reports in monetary units lets team members compute each other's
hourly rate which can be counter-productive to many teams. It would be very
beneficial if Project included this option.

Try my add-in at www.oakinc.com/ranger - I built it to deal with hours and
done/not-done reporting.
