Earned Value re BCWP at Task and Resource Level

Greetings,
I'm testing some earned value calculations in MS Project Standard 2003.
I entered tasks, work, assigned resources and baselined the plan.
I then reported progress by entering Actual Work hours using the Resource
Usage view. (I set the status date to the end of the week in which the work
occured).
I then applied the Earned Value table to the Resource Usage View...I see the
earned value fields calculated, specifically BCWP.
However, when I use the Task Usage view on the Earned Value Table, the BCWP
values are still 0 at the Task Level.
Am I missing something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did some investigation and found that the % Complete task field was not
being updated when I entered Actual Work. The % Work Completed field is
updated.

So, I think the question can be revised to what could prevent the % Complete
Task Field from being updated/calculated when Actual Work is updated.
