Earned Value

I am having a problem with one job in my current project. I have updated the
%'s however in one job the BCWP has not progressed. I reset the %'s to zero,
removed the $ values and then re-entered them, re-baselined, and then put the
correct %'s back in. The BCWP field still did not populate. Can somebody
please help. Thanks. (New user to this newsgroup)

When you assigned cost, was the cost for one or more Resources with a $ rate
or fixed cost. If fixed cost how is it accrued on the task?

I've just checked and in 2003 BCWP is calculated as I would expect: 50%
progress and BCWP=50% of budgeted cost.

All my costs are fixed costs as we use fixed price sub-contracts for the
majority of our work. I currently have about 200 jobs progressing to some
degree and there is only one that isn't progressing in BCWP. The total value
is reducing as the work is progressing, but no BCWP value. My version of MSP
is 2002.

Are Fixed costs for that task prorated or accrued at the end of the task? If
the end of the take, then BCWP won't change until the Task is complete.

I have checked and all tasks are prorated. I have also checked the baseline
and it is reading zeros as well?? I'm not sure what this problem is??

If the baseline is zero then BCWP will always be zero. So try Tools,
Tracking, save baseline again and see if the Baseline cost updates.

Another angle: didn't see it covered in your post, but do you have MPP set
to calculate based on "% Complete" or "Physical % Complete."

The latter would be consistent w/ the issue you seem to be having (although
am not sure if 2002 has that function - I guess it probably does).

Tools > Options > Calculation > Earned Value

If it is Physical % Complete, see if toggling back to % Complete doesn't
resolve the issue.

Let me correct myself:

Add the Earned Value Method field to your Gantt chart and see how each task
is calculated. If indeed it is Physical % Complete, change to % Complete.

Toggling in the Options menu only affects new tasks.

Sorry about that.

Andrew, thank you very much for your help, you were right. The task's earned
value method was physical % complete. I'm not sure where you live, but I owe
you a beer. Thanks again.
