The master category list is only for your convenience. Look at the bottom
right of the contact. You should see a Categories box. You can edit the
catetgories you find there for that item.

Or were you asking something else?

yes -- guess I didn't make myself clear .. I want to edit the category itself
.... say I want to change "inland river" to Inland River Ports" or something
similar .. once you enter a new category there seems no way to edit it ..
????? i've made spell mistake on one .. and used for so many contacts that
having to delete the error and add a new category with correct spelling would
be a lot of work ...

again, how does one edit a category .. ie edit a specific category with
corrections / additions ....

You didn't say *where* you wanted to edit it -- in the items marked with
that category or in the Master Category List.

*******Both! in general I would like to edit a category in the master
category list ... and then I would expect that that edited category to show
up corrected in all the contacts I've attached it to. Also, if I'm in a
contact and see a category that needs correction/editing, I'd like to do it
.... anywhere / any how it can be done ... it if can be done at all which I
still don't know

thanks - awayt yours

Outlook does not provide that functionality. Remember that the Master
Category List is just a convenience to give you a list to choose from.
Changing a category there has no effect on existing items.
