Edit Picture grayed out word 2003

Recently upgraded to Office 2003. Was previously able to Edit a picture with
a right mouse click on the picture and then select "Edit Picture". I have
reinstalled MS Photo Editor and pointed to this tool under the tools >
options > Edit tab. I have one document where the Edit Picture tool is
avialable, but in the other documents I have tried, it is not available. Why
would it be available in one document, but not the other when they were both
created the same way, in MS Office 97? Any ideas?

I see no one ever replied to your question. I have the same problem in Word
2002. Did you ever find a solution?

Thanks

So, both pictures are the identical format (only way to be user would be if
they were both the same picture and both inserted using the identical
method), and both are formatted identically? If all that's the case, then
there's no reason they wouldn't both respond in the same way. So, something
must be different about them. Are you selecting the pictures in the same
way?

For the one in which Edit Picture works, what happens if you copy that
picture and paste it into the document in which Edit Picture does NOT work.
Does it still work in that document?

What about vice versa? If you copy the non-working picture into the document
with the working picture, does the non-working picture still not work?

Thanks Herb,

Actually I was hoping his solution would be mine, but my problem is somewhat
different. No picture in a Word document of mine, regardless of where it was
created (Word 97, 2000 or XP) can be edited in Word since I installed Win XP.
The same was true in Word 2000 under Win XP. I, too, have Picture Editor
installed and selected as the default picture editor under the Word options,
which, theoretically doesn't matter. "Edit Picture" is grayed out, period.

Thanks for your help

The availability of Edit Picture depends on the format of the picture. I
find that if I cut the picture and use Paste Special to put it back as an
enhanced metafile, then Edit Picture is available. Even then, however,
PhotoEditor doesn't get used (not sure which format/s are required for Word
to actually use PhotoEditor in Word 2002-3, if at all--while PhotoEditor is
indeed selected at the default picture editor for me in Word 2000, 2002 and
2003, it actually only seems to be used in Word 2000).

The discussion here might be of some additional help:

If you insert a piece of clip art, is Edit Picture available?
