edit picture hell - word 2003

Greetings,

I was given a file containing black and white images. I need to convert this
doc to PDF. I want to edit the images in the doc. But, when I select an
image, "edit picture" is grayed out in the right-click menu.

I have tried to copy and paste these images into paint and Photoshop, but
the images don't look right.

Also, when I have turned the doc into a PDF and then "export images", a
given image is exported as 30 or so files, each just a horizontal strip of
the image.

What is going on here?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Im my business I do a large amount of digital imaging, photos, files, etc.
Never crossed this problem.
Using Photoshop, JASC, and Digital Imaging Suite 9 here.
Did you post this question in the Word discussion group?
I would suspect that your problem is in the file format that it was saved in.

Try saving the document as a web page (*.html) which will extract the
images from the document.

You'll have to remove the original images and insert them again but
that is best way I have found to retain the image quality.
