Edit Recorded "Sound"

r'm creating a PowerPoint deck that will be updated quarterly. It will have
recorded sounds (blurbs that various people from around the country will
record & email to me) to match up with what's on the screen. The final deck
will be accessed on a server by employees throughout the country. If I
record the blurbs with Sound Recorder and then within PowerPoint, insert the
"sound" from file, it links the files. (I can't put the linked files on the
server with the final deck.) If I record the "sound" files (or blurbs) from
within PowerPoint it seems to embed them -- which I prefer. However, I can't
figure out how I can edit the embedded files. Are they stored someplace or
they exist just within the individual PowerPoint deck? Help

Thanks Steve. You've been very helpful.

That will depend on the file format, your PPT options settings and the size of
the files.

If you want them embedded rather than linked:

- Save the files in WAV format

- Choose Tools, Options and on the General tab, crank a very large number into
"Link sounds with file size greater than ...". 5000 (for 5000kb or 50mb) should
be plenty. And PPT won't allow much more than that if anything.

- Make sure your sound files are no bigger than the size specified above.

- Add your sounds again.

- Since this will make for very big PPT files, you'll want to warn visitors to
the site that the files may take a while to download and to be patient.

(I can't put the linked files on the

Recorded narrations stored as embedded sounds are only saved within the PPT file
itself. There are ways of getting at 'em but it seems like that's beside the
point if you can get the files your narrators send you embedded instead, right?
