Editing a Word Document

Is there a way to 'edit' a word document that is located on a web server? I would like multiple users to be able to edit it at the same time, but that is not an absolute requirement.

I am running Sharepoint, and would also like to restrict access to this document (read/edit) to only certain people. Is there a tool or some other way of doing this?

Because you have a SharePoint site, several people can
annotate the document at the same time, but only one can
download, update, reload the document itself.

Create a team site for those people only, and then store
the document in that site.
