Editing an Existing Field

Hi all,
Is there anyway to edit an existing field in microsoft
project professional ?

The resource name field in task entry allow us to add in
new resource. Example, we have chosen 2 resource from
project server. However, when we go to task entry, under
the resource name, we are able to type in any value we want
Is there anyway to overcome this ?

Thanks in Advanced

You are correct. Typing a name in the Resource Name field in the Task Entry
view will add the resource's name in the Resource Sheet view. Doing so in
an enterprise environment will create a Local resource (meaning "local to
this project only"), as opposed to Enterprise resources which you draw from
the Enterprise Resource Pool using the Team Builder Wizard.

Microsoft Project will not stop you from creating Local resources, but you
can set up the software so that it WARNS you before you do so. To set up
the warning, click Tools - Options and select the General Page. DESELECT
the "Automatically add new resources and tasks" option, then click the "Set
as Default" button, and finally click OK. Make sure this option is set for
every existing project in your enterprise. Then, train your people as to
what the warning dialog box means in Microsoft Project when they type a
resource name in the Task Entry view. Hope this helps.
